The North Carolina Athletic Association sponsors National Student Athlete Day
every year for high schools nationwide. Students are chosen for their
performance in sports, in the classroom, and in their community.
To be
nominated, students must be in grades 9-12 and have a 3.0 grade point average.
Greene
Central athletes to be honored include Briana Stanton and Fernanda Brown (Girls’
Varsity Basketball), Peoria Wade and Natasha Williams (Girls’ Varsity
Volleyball), Daniel Creech (Varsity Golf), Andrew Hulbert and Brent Darden
(Boys’ Varsity Tennis), Amanda Holloman and Miriam Sheppard (Girls’ Track),
Meredith Rouse and Christi Murphy (Girls’ Varsity Tennis), Elizabeth Cooper and
Blair Carraway (Girls’ Jayvee Tennis), Jordy Davis and Clifton Chapman (Boys’
Varsity Basketball), Dreyan Willis and Kelsey Baker (Boys’ Jayvee Basketball),
Montrell Lee (Boys’ Track), Travis Rouse (Boys’ Varsity Baseball), and Montrell
Lee and Travis Rouse (Varsity Football).
“Brent is an
outstanding student and athlete. He strives to do his best in the classroom and
on the tennis court,” commented Boys’ Varsity Tennis Coach Brad Sauls.
Athletes that
were selected as National Student Athletes will be given a certificate at the
Spring Athletic Awards Night, May 13th at Greene Central High School.
